nigusse gemeda morke
74158 - slow dry natural
nigusse gemeda
karamo coffee
sidama, ethiopia
everything we love about sidama.
this is everything we wanted from a modern, natural process ethiopian. it has florals up front, sweet fruits throughout, with a very fresh finish. the process doesn't overpower the coffee, and allows for a very interesting and pleasant drinking experience. nigusse gemeda won 2020's ethiopia coe 1st place, and with this being our first coffee from them, we can see why. note: this coffee opens up closer to the 60-day mark, so we recommend resting 60 days before brewing.

sourcing and traceability

processing details
this coffee is hand-picked at peak-ripeness. after being hand-sorted, they are spread out and slowly dried on shaded african beds in a well-ventilated place for up to 30 days. this leads to a much longer drying process than a typical natural, with moisture being removed more evenly over time.
varietal / cultivar
74158 is one of ethiopia's most well-known varietals, selected and released in the 1970s. it is highly regarded for its perfumed florality, sweetness, and brightness. it is commonly found in sidama, bensa, and guji: all very famous within the modern specialty coffee community for their outstanding harvests.
