el silencio geisha

geisha - washed

qima coffee

huila, colombia

a stunning geisha from finca el silencio.
contrary to the name, meaning "the silent" in spanish, this coffee speaks volumes. we tried the 2024 harvest, and it was delicious, but we were blown away by this year's harvest. in cupping, it was unanimously chosen as a must-buy coffee. one of the best geishas we've ever had, for sure. this one lives up to the hype of huila.

sourcing and traceability

this coffee was sourced in collaboration with qima coffee, as a part of their competition and 90+ series coffees. qima has a unique place in the industry where they are fully integrated from tree to cup. they own and work with their farms all the way from planting seeds, harvesting, and processing to importing, exporting, and finishing. they also have their own cafe in london. truly, tree to cup.

processing details

this coffee is hand-picked at peak-ripeness. it undergoes an initial 6-12 hour fermentation, then is depulped and dry-fermented in open tanks with mucilage intact for 18-24 hours. finally, it is fully washed and dried on raised beds.

varietal / cultivar

with origins as an ethiopian landrace variety, geisha retains a genetic bond to the birthplace of the coffee tree. since its birth, it has garnered attention for its adaptability to diverse regions, particularly in panama where it gained initial popularity. it has since successfully acclimated to many regions such as colombia, where it thrives and is able to clearly express unique terroir-driven characteristics.
